【摘要】:Thesetestsdeterminetheoptimumwatercontentandmaximumdensity(unitweight)tobeusedformoldingsoil-cementspecimensinaccordancewithTestMethodsD559andD560.Note18212;SincethesetestsareusedinconjunctionwithTestMethodsD559andD560andthecriteriareferencedtherein,thetestdiffersinseveralaspectsfromTestMethodD698.TherearethreemaindifferencesbetweenthisstandardandTestMethodD698.Firstly,thisstandardallowsamaximumparticlesizeofx00BE;-in.(19.0mm)fora4-in.(101.6-mm)moldwhileTestMethodD698allowsamaximumparticlesizeof3/8-in.(9.5-mm)forthesamesizemold.Secondly,thisstandardpermitsthematerialleftoverafterthewatercontentspecimenhasbeenobtainedtobemixedwiththerestofthesampleandreusedforthenextdetermination.TestMethodD698doesnotpermitthematerialtobereused.Thirdly,thisstandardallowsthematerialthatisretainedonthex00BE;-in.(19.0-mm)andpassingthe3-in.(75-mm)tobediscarded(scalpingtechnique)andreplacedwithanequalmassofmaterialthatpassesthex00BE;-in.(19.0-mm)sieveandisretainedontheNo.4(4.75-mm)sieve.TestMethodD698doesnotpermitthescalpandreplacementtechnique.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationoftherelationshipbetweenthewatercontentandthedensityofsoil-cementmixtureswhencompactedbeforecementhydrationasprescribed.1.2A1/30-ft3(944-cm3)moldanda5.50-lbf(24.5-Normassof2.49-kg)rammerdroppedfromaheightof12.0in.(30.5cm)areusedandtwomethods,dependingonsoilgradation,arecovered,asfollows:
